Time Better Spent

Short Christian rant to follow, proceed with caution...

I've been hearing some people lately talking about moves of God and the way God moves and how some people are flaky, how they could be over dramatizing how God is moving in their lives, etc. It breaks my heart to hear such passion (misdirected passion) about how people respond to the presence of God. Who are we to say how a person should react to the presence of God? If people run, jump, dance, fall over, shake...etc...who are we to judge that? We haven't lived their lives...we don't know what God is doing in their hearts...

Perhaps it may seem strange, but all of those "strange" or "ridiculous" reactions to the presence of God occurred in the Bible. So God can't do it again??? A few that come to mind right away are...

Saul was knocked off his horse and struck blind...
David danced like an idiot...
Elijah was translated by God and found himself running beside a chariot...
On the day of Pentecost they spoke with tongues and people thought they were drunk...
many in the bible fell on their faces in worship...

Don't get me wrong, I don't think God always moves in those ways, but...Why don't we focus more on what God wants for us and what we can receive from His presence rather than watching how others do or don't respond to Him? I'm sure it is time much better spent...

Nice,

I usually don't do this, but being a new christian and seeking help is not always easy for us "Men". I thought that I might inquire to a sound mind about the direction that Christ is pulling me so that I may listen with my full awareness to achieve his will that he has planned for me. I am writing to you and to a few other blogs that I liked in hopes for some direction with hope that I don't land myself more advice from a critic like the ones that you spoke of in your blog (August 2009). I find myself reading the scripture again and again to understand, then finding out that the story I read was interpreted in another context when someone else tells it from their point of view. I just wish that there was a place (less confusing than the King James version of the Bible) that could supply the truth without the writers perception.

Is there a better way to weed out the bad advice from those whom scorn and discourage? If you have advice for a fresh heart after God, please feel free to send it this way. I think that honesty can come from anonymity.

P.S. If you have any good literature for a rookie, that would be good also.

Misguided,

James--First of all I apologize for taking so long to respond. Secondly, my best advice for you is to find a translation you like (NIV or New International Version is easy to understand)and begin reading in the New Testament. Don't worry about what other people get out of a story, the Holy Spirit will make sure you recieve whatever He has for YOU...that is one thing that makes Him so wonderful.
